“Cheating on You” by Charlie Puth

The premise of Charlie Puth’s “Cheating on You” is the singer falling in love back in the day. But he and his partner ultimately decided to go their separate ways.  It isn’t made exactly clear why the relationship came to an end. However, at the time this transpired, the narrator was supremely confident that he was making the right decision.

But now he has come to realize that breaking up was a mistake. Indeed since then he has moved on to a new partner. But when he gets intimate with her, he feels as if he is “cheating on” his ex.  And conclusively, the simplest way to look at the situation is as Charlie missing his ex and indeed coming to understand since the dissolution of their relationship that she is in fact irreplaceable to him personally.  But all of that being said, the insinuation is that she is not too keen on the idea of reestablishing their romance. And at least two things could account for this. First, she could have moved on with another guy. Second, she just is no longer interested in him.

So all in all, despite Charlie having moved on and found himself another girl, he still misses his ex like crazy.
