“Mother” by Charlie Puth

In “Mother”, the Charlie Puth is basically celebrating the fact that his girlfriend’s parents perceive him as someone he is not. That is to say that they think he is “well-mannered” and things of the such. However, their perception of him is based on a façade he puts on when in their presence.  Instead, as illustrated in the music video, he and their daughter enjoy a wild, experimental lifestyle along with their friends. Indeed things are on and popping the very moment they are free from her parents’ company. Also the general insinuation is that she and the singer are sensually involved.  Meanwhile, her “mother” is completely ignorant to this reality, as well as the fact that her daughter ‘sneaks out’ at night in order to chill with Charlie.

From a personal standpoint, as of the release of this song Charlie Puth is 27-years old. So the logical conclusion, once again being supported by the music video, would be that he is relaying the song from the perspective of a teenager, i.e. an individual whose romantic partner would likely be under the authority of her parents.

To be honest, the theme of this song reminds us of ABBA’s 1979 classic “Does Your Mother Know“.
