“Do You Mean” by The Chainsmokers (Ft. bülow & Ty Dolla $ign)

On “Do You Mean”, Andrew Taggart of the Chainsmokers and German pop singer bülow play the roles of two lovers quarreling with each other. In fact their relationship seems to have for the most part already ended. From Taggart’s perspective, Bülow is breaking up with him due to certain things she heard about him in relation to his past. These stories have caused her to lose “trust” in him. Bülow is bent on moving on and not looking back. From her viewpoint, Andrew is the cause of their breakup, not her. That past also seems to play a role in her personal disposition in that she insinuates she has dealt with men under similar circumstances before and is not privy to reliving those instances.

Meanwhile Ty Dolla $ign assists them with the chorus.  It is based on these troubled lovebirds asking each other ‘do they really mean’ what they are saying. Or put another way, they should “take a minute” to “stop and think” before verbally lashing out. Why? Because once these words are spoken, they cannot be taken back. In other words, are they truly prepared to “throw away” this relationship?

But just the fact that they are facing one another with this question illustrates that they have not completely lost interest in the romance.
