“Drunk In the Bathtub” by Jessie Murph

Jessie Murph just turned 18 a couple of months before “Drunk In the Bathtub” was dropped, but apparently, she knows a thing or two about that boozing life. In fact, the songstress has revealed that this piece was inspired by a real-life hangover she was forced to endure.

And it is such a concept this narrative revolves around, i.e. the vocalist needing some me time, “drunk in the bathtub” until her inebriation comes down to a point that she can properly function and re-engage in public activities.

And honestly, the lyrics get even wilder than that. For example, Murph implies that not only is she drunk but also high off of coke. Also, this party she’s attending “got strippers in the backroom”, an on-site amateur tattoo artist and the whole nine yards. Moreover, the lyrics come off as if she is actually intoxicated while “in the bathtub” within the house where this party is being held, not in her own home.

Also, the pre-chorus gives the impression that she’s not singing about a singular event but rather being caught up in a lifestyle where boozing to the point that a person becomes reclusive is the norm. Or put more simply Jessie seems, to some degree, to be referring to straight-up alcohol addiction.

But maybe that’s an over-analysis on our part. After all, the thesis sentiment is simply that the vocalist has gotten so drunk/high that she needs to be left alone for a while so that it can properly wear off before being compelled to make another move, like heading home.
