“Franchise” by Travis Scott (ft. Young Thug & M.I.A.)

Of course “Franchise” is braggadocious to the core! It features Travis and his collaborators, particularly Young Thug if you will, boasting of their pricey lifestyles. This includes numerous references to actual name brands. And considering that Travis Scott has recently been working with some of the biggest companies in the world, many of such lyrics feel as if they may actually be official endorsements. For instance, one of the aforementioned businesses he worked with was the ubiquitous McDonald’s – a deal which gave him a genuinely historic status.

Indeed the title of this song is ingeniously based on the metaphor that like McDonald’s, he and his cohorts are also a ‘franchise’. Or stated otherwise Travis is boasting, in an allegorical kinda way, that his brand has the extended reach of a business franchise, ultimately meaning that he’s mad paid.

Facts about “Franchise”

Epic Records in conjunction with Cactus Jack Records released this song on the 25th of September 2020.

The music video was filmed inside the home of Michael Jordan himself. More specifically the setting is his Chicago mansion. His Airness also makes a notable appearance at the beginning of the video.

And here’s another interesting, one can even say related fact. The last celebrity to have his own item on the McDonald’s menu prior to the Travis Scott Meal was Michael Jordan. That was way back in 1992, and said food item was called the McJordan Special.

The direction of the video to “Franchise” was handled by Travis Scott and an artist he’s worked with prior, White Trash Tyler. It features a multitude of luxury cars.

Travis Scott co-wrote and co-produced “Franchise”, as did Chase B and Teddy Walton. M.I.A. and Young Thug are also co-writers.

Additionally “Franchise” interpolates Dem Franchize Boyz’s 2004 song “White Tee”. As such, the members of Dem Franchize Boyz are also credited as co-writers of “Franchise”. And they are as follows:

  • Buddie
  • Jizzal Man
  • Parlae
  • Pimpin

This track marks the first time Travis Scott has teamed up with M.I.A. Meanwhile he and Young Thug are regular collaborators.

Rap artist Sheck Wes also contributed additional vocals to the song. Wes gained international stardom with his 2017 hit “Mo Bamba“.

Did “Franchise” chart?

Yes. Actually Travis and his collaborators scored a number 1 in the United States (the Hot 100 listing) with this song. The song also performed brilliantly in Slovakia. Here, it reached number 8 on the nation’s official singles chart.
