“Groceries” by Chance The Rapper (Ft. Murda Beatz & TisaKorean)

This is a lighthearted track in which the rappers (Chance and TisaKorean) basically rhyme about chilling. And in that regard Chance may be using the titular term “groceries” within the chorus to be synonymous with goods in general.

Another major theme is the rappers’ interactions with women. Chance spends most of the first half of his verse addressing one who he has feelings for. Meanwhile almost the entirety of TisaKorean’s verse is dedicated to a “black” lady he has befriended and is communicating with. But Chance also notably delves into his past living with his family and insinuates that even in those days he was the breadwinner, thus keeping within the theme of the track.

Meanwhile the refrain and chorus are handled respectively by TisaKorean and Chance. Tisa is once again focused on a female, asking her to “do it simple just like lemonade”, which is a grocery.  Meanwhile Chance’s chorus is a lot less-specific but does bring up “groceries” (i.e. “Minute Maid”) as well as “lip balm” and seemingly the aforementioned allusion to his wealth.

All things considered, trying to derive a definitive theme from this song is an act of futility. It reads more like a freestyle in that the artists have the options of rapping about whatever they want while only being mildly obligated to stick to the main topic, which apparently is “groceries”. But at the same time if you gave other rappers this subject and told them to rap primarily about females under this title, the lyrics would have likely come out a lot more-offensive and less-entertaining.
