“Atlanta House Freestyle” by Lil Yachty & Chance the Rapper

“Atlanta House Freestyle” is an authentic-rap track, as in Lil Yachty and Chance the Rapper are straight spittin’, devoid of hooks, choruses, bridges and other gimmicks rappers use to keep audiences vested.  And like a true freestyle, they do not stick to one particular subject but rather bounce back and forth, highlighting different aspects of their lifestyles, self-image and aspirations.

For instance, Lil Yachty starts off his first verse dissing “ni**as” who “front”. Then he gets into interactions he has with a lady friend. He also references his cashflow and the fact that he walks the streets of Los Angeles prepared just in case someone tries to play him. In general, his verse plays out like an ode to his wealth, gunplay and shorties.

Chance’s verse commences with he and Yachty referring to themselves as ‘Martians’. Then he brings up the fact that his previous work was just “a caution”, as in his next album will be even more successful. He then makes allusions to his wealth and overall success through wordplay about the size of his house. Later he brings up the strength of his Blackness by stating that it is more powerful than popular African-American educational institutions and television shows. Later be brings up the fact that he is “back in Atlanta… back at the house”, in other words at his “crib” Down South, which is likely where the title of this track was derived from.

He concludes his section by stating that if someone starts “acting up” they’ll get “smacked in (the) mouth”, and Lil Yachty picks up on this line by expressing a similar sentiment at the beginning of the next verse.

Ultimately, as aforementioned, “Atlanta House Freestyle” touches upon a number of diverse topics which are too numerous to list here. However, the overall artistic goal of the track is clear, which is to highlight the impressive lyrical skills and cohesion of Lil Yachty and Chance the Rapper.
