“Gyalis” by Capella Grey

After conducting a brief perusal of Capella Grey’s, as it stands now, terse discography, it would seem that he’s an artist who favors rapping about romantic topics, i.e. his amorous interactions with the opposite sex. And so it is with the song “Gyalis”.

You can view the lyrics, alternate interprations and sheet music for Capella Grey's Gyalis at Lyrics.org.

It has been pointed out that the title of this song is a West Indian term for a playa, which Capella asserts that verily, he is. And whereas there is a hint of braggadocio permeating throughout this piece, the intro and verse in particular aren’t necessarily based on such an idea.

Rather, let’s say that there’s a moral to this story. And that is yes, being the hotness and all, Grey is able to pick up women relatively easily. He even has the ability to take them directly from their boyfriends, as is the case with the one he’s expounding on in the lyrics.

But they may end up getting attached, which isn’t ideal for the vocalist since he is in fact a “gyalis”.

So conclusively, it can be said that this is Capella Grey’s way of letting romantic interests know that he simply ain’t on it like that. Instead as it currently stands, he’s more or less compelled to bonk as many women he finds attractive as he possibly can.

Capella Grey

Capella Grey is a newjack on the scene who little is known about as of the writing of this post. That is to say that he apparently hasn’t reached the stage in his career yet that warrants a Wikipedia page.

His professional discography apparently just commenced in 2020. But based on a history of the rapper posted on a celebrity bio website, he’s from Westchester, just north of New York City, though Billboard have him down as coming from the Bronx proper.

Meanwhile “Gyalis”, which was released on 30 April 2021, appears as if it may be Capella’s breakthrough hit. This is his first song to make it onto the Billboard Hot 100, breaking the top 40 of the list in the process. It also charted within the top-100 in Britain.

“Gyalis” was written and produced exclusively by the vocalist.

What Capella Grey said of "Gyalis"

This track samples “Back That Azz Up” (1998), the old Cash Money song by Juvenile featuring Mannie Fresh and Lil Wayne.

There is also a remix of “Gyalis”, featuring Chris Brown and Jamaican chanter Popcaan. In fact it would appear that Grey is himself of Jamaican descent, and accordingly “Gyalis” does feature a handful of lyrics rendered in patois.
