“Hate Me” by Miley Cyrus

As with many of the other songs on Miley’s “Plastic Hearts”, Hate Me can be interpreted as if Miley is addressing an ex. The implied backstory is that she and this person did not part ways on the best of terms, perhaps even with Cyrus dumping him or her. Therefore, as indicated by the title, the addressee still possesses ill feelings towards the singer. And all lyrics considered, Miley is more or less telling him that he needs to get over it already.  Or viewed alternatively, she wonders if it would take some type of catastrophe such as her untimely death for him to finally stop ‘hating her’. And in an indirect manner, such expressions also serve as a way of her expressing that she is still concerned about his feelings.
