“Single Again” by Big Sean

In the song “Single Again”, Big Sean is celebrating singlehood, if you will. That is to say that his current disposition is more along the lines of focusing on himself as opposed to a romantic partner. One of his rationales for thinking such is that he seems to encounter the same issues in new relationships that he had in past ones. Indeed in the first verse he puts forth the idea that maybe coming from a single-parent background himself, he is also destined to fulfill his days along the same lines also.

In the second verse, Sean also brings up mental-health difficulties he is dealing with and insinuates, based partially on the advice of his superstar homey DJ “Khaled”, that his primary focus once again should be on strengthening himself as opposed to a nurturing a romance. But in the meantime his “bros keep throwing (him) these random girls in stallions”. That means that his brethren are constantly introducing him to new women.

But apparently Sean is not overly interested in dating. In fact it can even be concluded that he is suffering from a broken heart, as he definitely alludes to such. And accordingly he needs time to heal before thinking about jumping back into the waters of romance. Or there is a high potential that doing so will eventually end up being a waste of time for both he and the other person involved.

Conclusively some may interpret Big Sean as coming off as being selfish in this particular song. But that is not so. Rather the rapper has basically come to the realization that, from a romantic standpoint, at this particular point in his life he is better off being “single again”.
