“I’m in Love with an E-Girl” by Wilbur Soot

The e-girl characterization points to the fact that the lady upon whom this song is centered is someone the singer interacts with, solely, over the internet. But as the title suggests, this is a girl whom Wilbur Soot has fallen in love with no face-to-face interaction having ever occurred between the two of them. And as the story goes, he begins communicating with her accordingly. But as time progresses he proves to be somewhat lacking in self-esteem and most-disturbingly obsessive. Indeed the e-girl herself refers to him as “a maniac”.

And whereas at first she is cool with the idea of chatting with him, ultimately she decides to just block dude. And it is also implied that the singer’s mom has picked up on his disturbing behavior. And as you, the reader, have probably already deduced, all of this is meant to point to the notion of how the social, romantic side of the internet can prove dangerous to users, especially naïve, inexperienced youth.

This is a song which Soot, a YouTuber from England, wrote and produced himself. And the role of the e-girl is portrayed by an Australian singer called Chevy.

Soot officially released this track to the world on 29 January 2020. It is the first of four tunes he intends to release about his relationship with e-girl. The second and third installments, entitled “Internet Ruined Me” and “Your New Boyfriend“, respectively came out in May and December of 2020.
