“Internet Ruined Me” by Wilbur Soot

The song “Internet Ruined Me” furthers the storyline established in a track Wilbur Soot dropped earlier in 2020 entitled “I’m in Love with an E-Girl“. But whereas that song was a bit more focused on the object of his affections, the lyrics of this one, as indicated by the title, are more introspective. And his sorrows are based on two realities.  First is that his love life has become too dependent on the internet, with Wilbur classifying himself as an “incel”, i.e. an involuntarily celibate male. And secondly, despite his best efforts to lockdown the e-girl, his relationship with her is going nowhere.

Indeed the singer is slowly but surely coming to the conclusion that he is being used. And why? This is because he gives her a good ‘50% of his income’, yet she is still ‘running’ from him. And despite the self-examining tone of “Internet Ruined Me”, at the end of the day it concludes on the same sentiment as the song which preceded it. And that is the singer lamenting his inability to get the online object of his affections to feel the same way about him.

This track was released on 25 May 2020. And it does have a sequel, entitled “Your New Boyfriend“, which came out a few months later.

Did Wilbur Soot write “Internet Ruined Me”?

Yes, Wilbur wrote this song himself.

Who is the female vocalist on the track?

As with the other two tracks in the trilogy, it features vocals by an Australian female singer who goes by the name of Chevy.
