Kanye West

Kanye West has been in the music industry since the mid-1990s. Also known as a fashion designer, West hails from Atlanta in the US state of Georgia. Over the years, he has used various stage names including Yeezy and Ye. He officially began using the latter moniker during 2022.

He worked as a music producer during the early stages of his career, and once worked with Jay-Z’s record label Roc-A-Fella Records. With time, West established a record company of his own named GOOD Music.

In 2004 he dropped “The College Dropout” as his first official full-length album. The record was met with critical and commercial success, peaking at #2 and #12 in the US and the UK, respectively.

From the period between 2005 and 2021 West released nine studio albums, with all of them being commercially successful, and topping the album charts in the US. To note, these albums include “Yeezus” and “Donda”, which represent his sixth and tenth studio albums, respectively. And both projects were not only chart-toppers in the US but in the UK as well as several other countries.

Awards

West’s numerous top notch accolades are a testament to his remarkable achievements in music. He has a tall list of Grammy awards and nominations, which date back to the mid 2000s. He actually won his first Grammys in 2005, picking up awards in the “Best Rap Song” and “Best Rap Album” categories. These awards were for his song “Jesus Walks” and his debut record, respectively.

In 2006 his “Gold Digger” song with US actor and musician Jamie Foxx was honored with the “Best Rap Solo Performance” award during that year’s Grammys. His sophomore album, “Late Registration”, also claimed the prize for “Best Rap Album”.
