Sam Smith’s relationship with Jonathan Zeizel

Sam Smith met model Jonathan Zeizel on the set of the music video for his song “Like I Can”. Jonathan happened to be one of the 20 extras that were cast in the music video. By December 2014, the two had made their relationship Instagram official, posting couple shots of themselves enjoying the holidays in Sydney, Australia. A couple selfie they posted that gained traction was one in which Zeizel had stuck out his tongue while Sam, then 22, posed with a fiery look as he held the camera.

After only two months of dating however, Sam hinted during a performance of Good Thing in Toronto that their affair was over. He later posted a gloomy selfie on his Instagram page with a caption indicating that the show was beautiful yet his day was sad. According to a report by The Sun, the singer later confirmed backstage that he was hoping to find new love again.

Speaking to ES Magazine, the Grammy Award-Winning singer revealed that he made a mistake to have publicized his affair with Jonathan, making it seem more serious than it actually was.
