“Life Goes On” by Oliver Tree

In Life Goes On, the writer employs several metaphors in relation to the animal kingdom and evolution to describe the state of his personal affair and musical journey.

The initial verse talks about how he plans on feeding a dominant partner to the wolves. It seems as though this partner may be a form of distraction to his musical career. He describes her as a ‘double-faced entendre’. This possibly signifies the fact that this person treats him right in the presence of others but treats him badly when they’re in their privacy. It could also be a reference to his music which comes out beautifully on the outside, but he goes through struggles in secret.

In the second verse, the narrator likens his personal and career growth to the evolution theory, while claiming that even though emotions are one of the things that separate humans from animals, they are not to be used as tools. His main point is that change is extremely important to his progress and the constant fact throughout these events is that life will always move ahead.

During an interview with Alt Press, Oliver confirmed the title as “Life Goes On”, and enlisted it as part of the track on his debut album Ugly Is Beautiful. Following the release of the album’s track-list in July of 2020 however, this song was not included.

Summary

In all, Tree is using this song to explore the bond between his personal life and entertainment career and how life moves onward regardless of the different seasons and events he experiences.

I relate to this song deeply, probably for different reasons. I’m going through a rough divorce right now and the only thing I can do while I wait for the trial is work and try to sleep.
