‘Maria’ is a song that urges self-love and ignoring the haters who wish to tear you down. It is an expression of acceptance and confidence in one’s own personality. Hwasa is reflecting her own internal turmoil and struggles in the face of so much negativity. This includes hateful and judgmental opinions in the industry. Hwasa is acknowledging the toxic effects that these can have on one’s mental health. In response, she insists that all the ‘Marias’ out there are beautiful and that they are perfect the way they are.

I love this song. It describes my condition exactly, if I had heard it earlier, I might not have had to go through what I went through. She also listens beautifully, as if she were telling a story to calm the mind.
