Meaning of “!!!!!!!” by Billie Eilish

“!!!!!!!” is the unorthodox title of the intro song to Billie Eilish’s 2019 album interestingly titled When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?  It is only 13 seconds in duration, making it the shortest song Eilish has released thus far. And the track serves as a medium where Eilish gives her overall feelings about Invisalign.

Invisalign is a clear-plastic tooth-alignment mechanism which functions similarly to metal braces.  Billie Eilish has been wearing these at least since early 2018 and has never been particular fond of them. Well now she has officially parted ways with this device. And she is so excited that she has dedicated this album to her newfound freedom, or more specifically this album is the result of her finally being loosed from a device that has caused her continual discomfort.

Fans of Billie Eilish already know her generally-negative disposition concerning Invisalign, as in the fact that she does not enjoy wearing them. However, this song does not read like a bashing of the product.  Rather it is to let the world know, in a humorous manner, how ecstatic Billie is to have overcome an inconvenient medical condition.

I like to think that it is titled by exclamation points because a song with that title is most likely to be at the top of a list of all your songs in your device, thus bringing her and this album to the forefront of your attention when you go to pick a song.

also, aesthetically, the exclamation points are like a row of teeth with something hanging off the bottom of the row…
