Meaning of “Sick Mouth” by Sevendust

“Sick Mouth” revolves around sort of a revenge fantasy on the part of the vocalist. As explained by Clint Lowery, the lyrics are based on a near-molestation he experienced as a child at the hands of one of his parents’ friends.

Said experience had a happy ending, in a manner of speaking, in that he alerted his mom before anything serious transpired and in the process, as implied, was able to ‘take the power away from the predator and give it back to the victim’. So it is upon that standard that the sentiments expressed in “Sick Mouth” are based.

The title of the song is not present in the lyrics, and, giving the backstory noted above, we can only imagine what it is supposed to mean in context. But with that above backdrop in mind, this proves to be one of the more understandable tracks found on “Truth Killer”.

The vocalist is calling out the addressee for being an abusive figure from his past. Now, in the present day, the latter is apparently facing some type of justice for those he abused – a reality that has Lajon pleased, as he does not believe in “prayer for the guilty”.

And besides that, the vocalist seems to have some lingering negative psychological effects as a result of the way the addressee treated him, such as ‘blaming himself’ for whatever it is that transpired between the two of them. But obviously, he has found some level of relief now that his assaulter has been exposed.

“I ran from God and now I’m stuck in my head
I’d blame myself but now I’m practically dead”
