“Okay Okay” by Alessia Cara

Alessia Cara’s “Okay Okay” is a braggadocio tune accompanied with a twist.  The singer does not come off as being as cocky as other musicians who make similar tracks. Rather she was coerced into doing this kind of song by her best friend, who compelled her to drop a track that they ‘could feel themselves to’. And apparently the way Alessia interpreted this request was by dropping “Okay Okay”, which features the songstress bigging up herself.

And Alessia acknowledges that in doing so she is going against how she truly feels, since she is “always stressed”. Also, she never appears to have contemplated composing a song based on such subject matter on her own. So once again Alessia’s friend encourages her, making her aware that she’ll never know how it will come out unless she tries. Thus this tune is the result of Cara going about ‘convincing herself that she’s the coolest’ and on top of her game. And she proceeds to do so in the chorus by basically giving a shoutout to her talents, looks and cashflow.

And ultimately, Alessia rationalizes taking such a course of action by explaining that “everyone is allowed to feel amazing”. That is to say that there is nothing wrong with a person feeling good about themself. Moreover she espouses the idea of individuals forcefully boosting their self-esteem until the desired effect comes to pass – or as the old adage goes, ‘fake it until you make it’.

All in all

So conclusively, what we have here is Alessia Cara coming off as somewhat of a depressed individual who is taking time out of her usual routine to relish in her accomplishments. But the purpose of this song is not to serve as a display of personal vanity. Rather it is a self-empowerment tune based on the general idea that sometimes a person has to take initiative in order to feel good about their own self.
