“Poem” by LP

This is an interesting track for LP to end her album on, as it encapsulates and brings home many of the themes that permeated throughout “Churches”. That is to say that vocalist goes about namedropping the titles of the other track in this poem.

And as most of the album itself, it is primarily romantic in nature. Furthermore, it can be deemed that what LP is saying, conclusively, is that she’s the type to take love very seriously. And to relay this message she is putting it into the context of addressing her ex.

And in terms of clarifying the title of this project, she explains that this individual ‘was her church’, i.e. the center of her worship, so to speak.

So even though we know that as far as the heartbreak songs found on “Churches” are concerned they may not be all speaking to the same ex from LP’s romantic past, we can still ascertain that either way losing her significant other(s) is something that greatly affected the narrator.

And for readers/listeners who are now just about to tackle this album that may be the best way to approach it, as being premised on the concept of the vocalist having had her heart broken.
