“Prayin’ in a Deer Stand” by Luke Bryan
A deer stand is, most simply put, an elevated shed utilized by hunters. And as depicted in this song, the one Luke Bryan frequents is in a remote, secluded area located within a corn farm. So while he’s there, instead of his mind being solely focused on gathering prey, this location makes the vocalist introspective.
And being who he is, this also prompts him to engage in some heartfelt prayer, as if the deer stand is a sacred place, with Bryan likening such an experience amidst “a cold sunrise” as being his “heaven on Earth”.
And he understands that even though this is a very-special site to him, others may find the same sensation in a church or even places as diverse as “on a pier”. Furthermore, Luke is also privy to the fact that praying is such that he’s not going to receive direct feedback. But the singer is solidly under the impression that he and Most High do share a personal relationship.
“Prayin’ In A Deer Stand” looks like it’s going to be the soundtrack for all fans who love hunting. With that, many fans have shared their memories of hunting with their dads and grandfathers. One fan even said the release of this track is perfectly tied with the whitetail deer rutting season, which happens in mid-November.
This track also left fans missing their hunting-loving fathers who had passed away. One shared how his brother made a rock for their late dad at the place he went hunting, and how they as a family would visit it every October for the changing of the leaves and celebrate their dad.
Release and Credits for “Prayin’ in a Deer Stand”
“Prayin’ in a Deer Stand” was formally released the 4th of November, 2022. Prior to the release of this song, the last studio album Luke Bryan dropped was 2020’s “Born Here Live Here Die Here”, which was a notable chart success. However, the associated singles did keep him going throughout 2021.
He came out with one other single, “Country On“, earlier in 2022 which, as with “Prayin’ in a Deer Stand” as of this writing, has yet to be associated (if at all) with a larger project.
Luke wrote this song in conjunction with Nicolle Galyon and Jimmy Robbins. On the other hand, the song’s producers are Jeff Stevens and his son, Jody Stevens.
Interesting to Note
According to Luke, “Prayin’ in a Deer Stand” is a very personal song to him.
Luke, who grew up in small-town Georgia (US), is known as being an actual hunting aficionado. He even came out with a song in 2016 titled “Huntin’, Fishin’, And Lovin’ Every Day” – one of about a dozen tracks he’s released that have gone multi-platinum in the US.
