“Rubberband” by Tate McRae

Tate McRae’s “Rubberband” features the singer lamenting over a recently lost love. It is especially painful for her, as she is the one who called off the relationship in the first place. So now, she keeps a “rubber band on (her) wrist”. And she “snap(s) it every time” she seriously starts thinking about her ex, specifically in an amorous way, in an attempt to forget about him. But by the looks of things, she is not going to achieve that goal anytime soon.

Who Is Tate McRae?

Tate is a musician and dancer from Canada. She made a name for herself in the latter regard first, emerging victorious from a number of dance competitions even before becoming a teenager. Her dancing skills also saw her perform, in 2016, on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, as well be part of Justin Bieber’s Purpose World Tour that same year. Indeed 2016 was a particularly-momentous era in her life, as she also made it to the finals of the US-based So You Think You Can Dance. This was when she was only 13 years old, and she became the first Canadian to do so.

In 2017 McRae started a YouTube series called Create with Tate. In addition to her dance videos, she began uploading songs she wrote earlier in life, which she sang herself. The first of these tunes, One Day, went viral enough that she was prompted to self-release it. And upon doing so, it ended up achieving gold certification Up North. She also came out with a couple of other songs which proved popular enough for YouTube to dub her an Artist on the Rise. But it was One Day which really stood out, to the point of helping her land a recording deal with RCA Records in 2019. And since then she has begun taking her music career a lot more seriously.
