“You’re So Cool” by Tate McRae

“You’re So Cool” is yet another song which, in her own words, Tate McRae has stated is speaking to a certain type of general-relationship situation, but as presented in the lyrics, it is put into a romantic context.

Concerning her own explanation, what this track is supposed to be about, most simply put, is extremely-conceited people, a phenomenon which McRae only recently had to contend with. She has also implied that this piece was composed with one particular person of that inclination in mind. And in once again going back to the lyrics, said individual would have likely been a romantic interest.

And most simply explained, as depicted this person is really caught up on himself, thinking he’s “so f–king cool”. But what the vocalist is telling him is that this is not how others perceive him. His “best friends” – on the low it would seem – actually “really hate” him.

As for the vocalist’s perception of the addressee, who is her ex, she sees him as someone who thinks he’s smarter than he is and is unable to face up to his own issues. Simply stated, he falsely believes himself to be flawless.

Takeaway

This narrative also possesses elements similar to other songs found on Tate’s “I Used to Think I Could Fly” album. For instance, the addressee is implied to be akin to a womanizer, as in the song “Boy X“.

Moreover, Tate herself is “sick” of him, which is actually a sentiment that permeates throughout this album, i.e. the vocalist’s disdain for her ex. So it may be that she is more or less addressing this same person in most of the songs on the project.
