Sam Hunt’s “Kinfolks” Lyrics Meaning

Kinsfolk, as you’re likely already aware, is a word which alludes to one’s family. And in the case of those like Sam Hunt, this term would include his close old, friends also. However, this song is not centered on the singer’s loved ones. Rather, as illustrated in the first verse, he happens to randomly meet a lady whom he is immediately smitten by. In fact he is so taken aback that even while they’re having their first conversation, he is already fantasizing about taking her home to meet his aforementioned family and friends. Moreover he is basically relaying this fantasy to her for the intended purpose of effectively picking her up.

In the second verse he details his imaginings even further. For instance, he depicts the two of them chillin’ under the stars in his hometown. And yes, things do reach a certain point  where the listener does logically debate if this is an actual case of love at first sight or infatuation. For example, in the selfsame verse he also points out that, to some degree, he is not even interested in what this lady has to say.

Conclusion

So we can say that Sam is being somewhat comedic in trying to befriend this exceptional lady. But amidst such, he effectively gets his point across. And that is he is not interested in courting her but wants to cut straight to the chase. And he is not relaying this sentiment via any type of offensive character. Rather what he is trying to tell her is that he has looked at her once and afterwards genuinely fell in love.

So in a real-life scenario there is little to no likelihood that this lady will immediately follow him to his “hometown”. Nor, as shown in the bridge, does that necessarily seem to be his intended goal. But she will know that this is someone who is genuinely interested in her, which does seem to be the envisaged point.
