“Taking Chances” by Celine Dion

As the title of this song suggests, “Taking Chances” reflects the singer’s need to be with a particular person. She wants this so badly even though she might not know him well and there might be risks.

In the song, Celine Dion clearly indicates that she has not fully figured him out or gotten familiar with the kind of person he really is. However, her fear of being alone takes over her thoughts. Owing to this, she would rather have a risky experience with him. She suggests to this guy that he should try things with her by taking the risk, to see if they are compatible.

Celine simply wants to skip the familiarizing stage of their friendship and go straight to becoming her lover. She believes that finding new love will give her a fresh start and is not really worried about the fast pace of her request. Apparently, she wants them to give themselves a chance to fall in love, despite the risks of a later disappointment.

Lyrics of "Taking Chances"

Did Celine Dion write “Taking Chances”?

No. This tune was actually penned by American songwriter Kara DioGuardi along with Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics fame. Actually a line from “Taking Chances” was even derived from the Eurythmics classic hit single “Here Comes the Rain Again”. That line in question is “So talk to me, like lovers do“.

How Celine Dion got to record “Taking Chances”

This song was initially not meant for Celine. The songwriters Stewart and DioGuardi originally penned it for their musical collaboration Platinum Weird. However, after they played the song to the hearing of music executive René Angélil (Celine’s late husband), he liked it so much he encouraged his wife (Celine) to record it.
