“Water and a Flame” by Celine Dion

Celine Dion’s “Water and a Flame” is mainly about the emotional trauma the singer is going through after suddenly being dumped by her lover.
The singer recounts the experience a week later and realizes that she is unable to stop thinking about her ex. She seems to be so desperate to hear from him that she is willing to accept a busy tone, just to know that he is fine. She also has a hard time accepting the fact that they are no longer together because she strongly believed he was perfect for her.

Again, Celine depicts that she is unsure of the reason for their separation and takes the blame upon herself. The pain she feels causes her to think that she doesn’t want anything else in life. She uses “water and a flame” as a metaphor to describe their relationship, where one of them quenches the other person’s zeal.

In the end, the singer realizes that she has to move on with her life and tells him to not try to get in touch with her because she’s fine.
