“That Way” by Lil Uzi Vert

This song interpolates The Backstreet Boys’ 1999 hit “I Want It That Way”. Indeed some people are even calling “That Way” a cover of the classic. But going that far would be a stretch, as the two songs are based on completely-different subject matters. Or let’s say that whereas The Backstreet Boys’ original may be centered on the emotional side of a romantic relationship, this one is primarily focused on Lil Uzi Vert’s sensual exploits.

In fact it wouldn’t be totally inaccurate to say that when he exclaims he ‘wants it that way’, the “it” he is referring to is bedroom fun. And as is Uzi Vert’s standard, he also gives a couple of shoutout to his wealth-inspired and gun-toting lifestyle. So at the end of the day, we can say that this track serves as an ode to the rapper’s way of living in general. And as is illustrated by the chorus, Uzi approves of the way that his life is progressing.

Release Date of “That Way”

Warner Music Group and Atlantic Records released this track on 1 March 2020. And whereas it has not been made official at the time, the general belief is that this is the second single from Lil Uzi Vert’s continually-delayed sophomore album, “Eternal Atake”.
