“The News” by PartyNextDoor

The title of this song (“The News”) is derived from one of the lines in the chorus which reads “what’s news to you, it ain’t news to me”. The idea which this is seemingly alluding to is that the singer and his romantic partner, i.e. the addressee, do not see eye-to-eye.  In fact she is portrayed as being an abusive lover.

So whereas an outsider may not be privy to what’s going on in their relationship, when they’re behind closed doors she tends to verbally thrash PartyNextDoor. Thus the premise upon which this song is based is that the singer wants out of this romance. In fact in the outro he implies that she is actually cheating on him.

But the conclusion is that he does not have the strength/courage to actually terminate the relationship. Thus the song ends with him exclaiming “I got used to your bad side”. Simply put, he is more inclined to endure the aforementioned “hurt” than to actually terminate this relationship.
