The Weeknd

The Weeknd is a Canadian singer. His legal name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, which is evident of his Ethiopian parentage. He has been formally active in the music profession since around 2010. Shortly thereafter he signed with Republic Records, and his first album, “Kiss Land” (2013), performed impressively in the US and Canada, topping both the Billboard 200 and Canadian Albums Chart.

But his second project, “Beauty Behind the Madness” (2015), really thrust him into international superstardom. For instance, it scored a number 1 on the UK Albums Chart, the Canadian Albums Chart, the ARIA Albums Chart and the Billboard 200. And his fourth album, “After Hours” (2020), replicated this feat and then some. Accordingly he has taken home a plethora of music awards throughout the first decade of his career, including a handful of Grammys and a couple of AMAs.
