“Wasted Times” by The Weeknd

On “Wasted Times”, the singer (The Weeknd) is addressing his ex-girlfriend. Yes, they had a tumultuous relationship. But even now after going their separate ways, he can’t get over her. Thus the title points to his conclusion that he has been “wasting time” by dating another lady beside her. For on top of the jealousy he’s developed when thinking of his ex with other guys and missing her in general, he doesn’t perceive the woman he got with after her as being her equal.

And being that this is indeed The Weeknd we’re talking about here, fans have gotten to analyzing who he may be actually referring to, as he has dated some famous women.  And the conclusive theory is that he is singing to Bella Hadid, i.e. the ex that he misses.  Meanwhile, the one who he felt he ‘wasted time’ with would be Selena Gomez.

The Weeknd and Bella Hadid

Weeknd and popular model Bella Hadid have not been secretive about their relationship since it began in May 2015. They are reported to have met at the Coachella music festival in April 2015, confirming rumors that they had started dating officially a few weeks later. The Weeknd was 25, while Bella was 18 at the time they met.

The two hardly shy away from expressing their love as they sat together at the New York Fashion Week in September 2015, made their first red carpet appearance as a couple on February 15, 2016 at the 58th Grammy Awards and even matched outfits at the MET Gala in May 2016. In November 2016 however, it was reported that they had separated due to conflicting career schedules. Between January and October 2017, The Weeknd dated and broke up with Selena Gomez.

In November 2017, he reached out to Hadid and the two had rekindled their romance by May 2018, confirming their comeback officially in July that year. Bella and The Weeknd reportedly signed a lease for a $60,000 per month penthouse in New York City in October 2018.
