“Time Machine” by Alicia Keys

We all know that Alicia Keys is sometimes serves as a philosophical and inspirational artist. And operating along those same lines, “Time Machine” is actually based on the idea of espousing the act of ‘freeing your mind’ to see that ‘there’s beauty in everything’. And part of this process apparently involves embracing the present as opposed to looking back on the past. For the title is derived from a couple of lines in the chorus which state that “we can’t rewind; life ain’t no time machine”.

Or more specifically, the singer acknowledges that people tend to change, unfavorably if you will, as they age. Or perhaps another way of looking at it is that people have the tendency of having regrets, in terms of not capitalizing on the past, as they grow older. And Alicia postulates that such is actually the result of their own consciousness bothering them due to not ‘chasing their dreams’.

And once again, the presented solution to this psychological malady is for said suffers to ‘got out of their minds’, which can be interpreted as encouraging them to go all-out in the name of self-fulfillment. So the simplest way of looking at “Time Machine” is as it supporting a philosophy where people should not look back but instead focus on the present and future in the quest for fulfillment and freedom. And they should do so with all of their uninhibited, positive energy, for success would be theirs.
