“Only You” by Alicia Keys

It is apparent by this point, i.e. the eighth track on the playlist of “Keys”, that this is for the most part a romance album. All of the preceding songs, with the exception of “Plentiful“, are either overtly or implicitly romantic in nature.

Moreover, they all more or less focus on the concept of the vocalist being exclusively in love with the addressee. In other words, they center on Alicia being someone who is convinced that she has indeed found her soulmate. And so it is once again with “Only You”, where the title leads us to the exact idea.

Or in this case as presented, the love of the addressee is the only thing the vocalist desires in life. And as put forth in the lyrics, this is primarily for two reasons. The first appears to be that even with romance aside, the two of them are actually friends. The second is that this relationship empowers the vocalist, granting her the wherewithal to approach life more courageously.

Or put differently, she finds this union to be holistically gratifying. Therefore she is not only resolved to maintaining this relationship with the addressee but also, more to the point, wants to make sure that her lover understands just how much he means to her.
