“Torn” by Ava Max

Ava Max’s “Torn” is based on an inner conflict the singer is going through via her romance. In other words, she is “torn” by feelings of both love and hate for her partner. This is because she experiences both pleasure and pain as a result of her interactions with him.

One of the things she really enjoys is the physical intimacy. Yet they also experience a considerable degree of “drama”, as in outspoken discontent, in fact on a daily basis. And despite making perpetual attempts to call it quits, Ava finds herself still ‘crawling’ back ‘into the arms’ of her boo. Or put differently, her feelings for him are not allowing her to break up, despite the songstress having serious beef with the relationship.

“Torn” is a Love Song

But make no mistake about it – despite the singer’s grievances, this is definitely a love song. For instance, according to the bridge, she seems to prefer being with him more than engaging in any other activity.  And even in regards to the aforementioned “drama”, she states that getting into it with him is her “favorite part” of the day. So in a way, one can even argue that the primary sentiment being put forth is one of affection, as in the singer not having the wherewithal, emotionally, to part ways with her lover.

And with that in mind, you can’t help but to sympathize with Ava and the conflict she is going through. But if one were to make an attempt at predicting the future of this relationship, it is worthy to note that the song ends pretty much the same as it began. That is to say that things will likely continue along their established course, with the songstress going through the dilemma of being enraptured in an arguably toxic relationship.
