I feel like it describes my cptsd and wanting to get back to light and security. Emotional flashbacks like waves. The light in the dark that is what we want to be enveloped in. It slips through my fingers as the waves wash over me.

This song connects a lot for me. It makes me think about the ups and downs of my bipolar. To me it’s like waves…about the light at the end of the tunnel. I relate to it a lot, it’s one of my favourite songs because of the way it connects. It makes me think about the way I lost myself, and about how much it took from me. (Like a childhood) it was the hidden meaning behind the song for me.
“Person that I thought I was the boy I used to know”
“There is a light in the dark…why can’t I hold on”
“Memories of a stolen place…an echo lost in space”

It seems the music video lessen the song meanings… but that is just me. The Girl is cute though.

It also seems there’s a deeper meaning carried by the song. At the very least it also offer hope, that UPs will come after each Downs…

  7. Effie says:

The song seems to be mourning the loss of feeling, excitement, or joy. The description Lewis gave makes sense. However, I feel like there is a deeper loss than that of excitement but speaking to the tragedy of the loss of life itself. It is often stated that emotions from grief come in waves. I think perhaps the childhood experiences of one of the three writers could have come into play here. There is mourning and pain but simultaneously breathtaking beauty. I love this song!
