“Wrong Decisions” by NAV

Lyrically, “Wrong Decisions” is reminiscent of the type of emo rap we have come accustomed to via the likes of the late Juice WRLD and XXXTentacion, or perhaps we can even say NF.

Yes, Nav is rapidly making a name for himself in the game. This is a fact that he enlightens us listeners to more than once in the piece. But the main purpose of this song is not to brag. Rather, it is to illustrate that despite experiencing such success, the vocalist still finds himself feeling less than fulfilled, and may we even say fearful on the inside – a fact that he hides, as relayed, by engaging in materialism.

And there are a plethora of issues introduced throughout which Nav is suffering from. Some of it has to do with his upbringing and the realization that he “ain’t get time to [fully] mature”, which is problematic now that he’s faced with “too many options”. Also, as implied, a less-than-ideal romantic history is a factor. Moreover, he acknowledges the likes of people out here who negatively use his name for clickbait.

But arguably, what is really at the heart of his internal discomfort more than actual-palpable difficulties, it would appear, is a high level of anxiety that the rapper is experiencing. For instance, he’s concerned about the loyalty of his “b*tch” and “brothers”. And despite, in reality, Nav arguably being the second-hottest rapper from Canada at the moment, he seems to be very mindful of the future of his career – so on and so forth.

Nav is Overthinking?

Indeed by the time all is said and done, this vocalist reads like the case of someone who, most simply put, is thinking too much. Or let’s say that for whatever reason, Nav’s success is such that he can’t fully enjoy it.

Yes, ‘wearing his chain’ and “sitting courtside” and all does make it appear that he’s thoroughly chillin’.  But the reason he’s conducting himself so, i.e. living the fast life, is obviously in the name of combating depression, not just ballin’ for ballin’s sake. And under the acknowledgement that he is in fact “speeding… on the road to riches”, the vocalist is also “hoping” that in the process, he doesn’t “make the wrong decisions”.
