“7AM on Bridle Path” by Drake

In a perfect world, if two grown men like Drake and Kanye West have beef they’ll settle the matter behind closed doors, perhaps shooting the fair one in the privacy of homeys if need be. But in the world of hip-hop we may have, say, Yeezus posting Drake’s home address all up on social media.

“7AM on Bridle Path”

And that is actually what the preposition in this song’s title points to. It refers to the neighborhood in which said home is situated and thus indirectly Drizzy’s beef with Yeezy.

Therefore, the most notable lines in this song are the ones found about four-fifths of the way through its lengthy verse, where Drake, without using any direct references, confronts said sharing.

And his response is to mock Kanye for thirsting, as some would call it, i.e. making an ill-advised post on social media for the primary purpose of grabbing attention.

But of course there was some genuine malice behind that move also. Drake and Kanye, in their own special way, have been going at it for over a decade now. And the feud has been intensifying as of late.

Owing to the above, there are other bars within the song that have also been deemed as lyrical jabs against Yeezy. For instance, if in fact Kanye is the primary addressee, then as portrayed at the beginning, he doesn’t display any ill will when he and Drake actually meet in person or are in close vicinity.

And that aspect of this drama has Drizzy particularly cheesed, i.e. implying that his adversary is afraid to face him directly. This may be why, once again going back to the afore-referenced lyrics, he is challenging him to “give that address to your driver”, as in telling Kanye to come and see him face-to-face.

Even More

In rap music, a common strategy used in the name of pissing rivals off is rather focusing on your own success than their shortcomings. So it was only a matter of time before Drake embraced full braggadocio. And he does so a few bars into the singular verse.

One particularly interesting line during this boasting is when he references NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo in a manner similar to how Kanye did just a few days prior on Junya. In fact as a side note, this whole address drama jumped off just a week before this track was released. So that would mean that Drake and his behind-the-scenes’ people put this track together within the last few days.

Another notable perceived diss against Kanye comes later on the verse, where Drake references Yeezy’s fashion career. Indeed if you really think about it, it’s not common to hear a celebrity dissing a fashion designer as successful as Kanye West has been. But that’s exactly Drake’s point, that he doesn’t “give a f**k” about West’s overall popularity.

It is also possible that directly afterwards, Drizzy’s alludes to the notion that his main beef with Yeezus is actually based on. And that is Kanye’s indirect involvement in The Story of Adidon (2018). The aforementioned is a track in which Kanye’s sidekick, Pusha T, basically went about involving Aubrey’s newborn son into the mix.

But why do we think so? Because right after the line alluding to Kanye’s fashion career, the rapper goes about basically threatening to kill anyone who ‘plays with his seed’. And in the rap community, “seed” is a common metaphor for a child. Or put more euphemistically, Drake doesn’t appreciate any of his rivals putting little Adonis Graham into their crosshairs.

I’m even more popular than you are!

Later on, before all is said and done, Drake appears to point to the idea that these days, he’s more trending than Kanye West. Indeed we have pointed out in the recent past how Yeezy’s heyday as a musician does, understandably, appear to be behind him.

For instance, Ye, the album Kanye released in 2018, has thus far achieved RIAA gold status as compared to Drake’s own effort that year, Scorpion, which has gone quintuple-platinum.

So what Drizzy is sort of saying is that his success is what has knocked old timers like West down a notch or two in the game.

The Long and Short of “7AM on Bridle Path”

So conclusively yes, it is pretty obvious, all things considered, that this is a Kanye-diss song. But as far as the thesis sentiment being expressed, it’s not really about lambasting West or any other of Drake’s rivals really.

Instead, in classic Champagne Papi fashion, most of the lyrics are dedicated to the rapper reveling in his own success. And doing so in a manner to make his haters angry has actually been a common device throughout Drake’s rap career.

Drake’s Home in Bridle Path

Drake, being a gazillionaire and all, owns a number of ridiculously-priced homes. One of them, the one that is actually located in his base city of Toronto, is located in an upscale area known as Bridle Path. Hence the title of the diss song.

Even though Kanye did publicize Drake’s address, reportedly he didn’t keep it up for long.

For the record, this isn’t the first time Drake’s Toronto home address had been published. It was once published on the internet long before Kanye West got around to doing so. However, at that time, it was in a much less attention-grabbing manner
