Luke Combs’ “Beer Never Broke My Heart” Lyrics Meaning

In “Beer Never Broke My Heart”, Luke Combs makes one thing really clear: Iced cold beer is not among the things that have broken a man’s heart. It appears as though this person is no longer interested in pursuing love and finding his place in society due to certain unfortunate events in his life.

No luck in love

The singer narrates his ordeal by laying out how he’s tried several kinds of relationships which failed in the long run. This is probably what he’s trying to get across when he mentions that a large mouth bass bust his line. He further discloses that he’s had several beautiful girls dump him, his trucks breaking down, his pet dogs running off and his boss firing him.

Can’t trust again

Combs portrays a man who has now lost his ability to trust anyone or anything. The chorus sees him commending long neck iced cold beer for not hurting his feelings. He reminds himself how having a passion for sports and music has caused him to feel more disappointed and inadequate.

In the second verse, the writer recalls what must be the most painful experience inspiring him to make his assumptions. He seems to have fallen crazy in love with a woman from Carolina, but she left town, or worse, ditched him without prior notice. This affirms his decision to not count on people’s promises.

Cold beer is now his companion

In the end, the character avoids giving himself a chance but rather chooses to drown himself in his cold beer. At least it is always available, will not hurt his feelings and could even help him forget about all his misfortunes for a while.

Message behind “Beer Never Broke My Heart”

The main message behind this song is that most often, inanimate objects can eventually become the most important part of a person’s life. This is because unlike humans, they don’t seem to hurt that much.
