“A Sweeter Place” by Selena Gomez (ft. Kid Cudi)
Whereas this song has a romantic undertone, the general idea being presented is that Selena Gomez and Kid Cudi desire to be in “a sweeter place”. Now said location is largely metaphorical, being tantamount to a sensation like a completely-satisfied state of mind. And based on the way Selena explains it, she is able to achieve this state only after moving herself “far from the crowds”. Or stated otherwise, she anticipates feeling most edified when she is relatively-isolated, “out of the scene” and “out in the wild”.
And based on the chorus, the implication is that she would want to be there with a romantic interest. And it could be deemed that Kid Cudi is portraying the role of said individual, as his verse centers on him going through a similar experience. Furthermore, it should also be noted that this whole scenario is presented as a hypothetical one, as in a fantasy. So the vocalists have not reached “a sweeter place” yet. But Selena especially seems to have a solid idea of how such a daydream would play out in real life.
