Selena Gomez’s “Rare” is based on the theme of the singer being on the receiving end of an unreciprocated love. And she understands that she isn’t perfect. But at the same time she also realizes that she is more vested in this romance than her partner. In fact she has basically envisioned the two of them getting married. However, at the present he’s more or less treating her as if she isn’t even there. But Selena is not about to let the situation overwhelm her emotionally.
Rather as the title suggests, she also realizes she is “rare”. In other words, despite her shortcomings she knows that she is unique enough to find a lover who actually appreciates her. So with that in mind, she is not going to break her neck trying to get through to her current boyfriend in light of him mistreating her. Instead the singer is fully cognizant her value, even if he is not. Therefore the overall insinuation is that dude doesn’t ship up soon, she is going to give up on their relationship and open up to welcoming a new partner.
