“About You” by The 1975

The full title of this song, as rendered in the lyrics, is actually a question that reads “do you think I have forgotten about you?”  And who it is being posed towards is the vocalist’s romantic interest or more specifically his ex.

With two facts in mind combined with reality that this piece is lyrically terse, “About You” is pretty simple as far as love songs go. The vocalist and addressee have broken up some unspecified time ago, though it is obvious they have been apart from an extended period, i.e. long enough for Matt to pose the above question.

So basically, what we’re dealing with here can be defined along the lines of a case of long-lost love. There is no indication, even if the two vocalists are still thinking about each other, that they will eventually get back together. But this piece ultimately serves as a reminder that soulmates, if you will, can in fact permanently breakup, yet the relationship they once shared will always hold a special place in their memories.
