Alec Benjamin suffered from what some would define as a setback early in his career. For despite being contracted by Columbia Records while he still in college, the label dropped him before he was able to actually drop any tracks. However, he did not take this as defeat. Rather he thought of other ways to promote his brand. For instance, the singer/songwriter put together a song entitled “Let Me Down Slowly” (2018). Fans of Benjamin would recognize this as his breakthrough tune, a track that achieved double-platinum status in the United States and a few other countries. However, this was also amongst the songs which Alec used to land a deal with the label that actually published it, Atlantic Records.
In between 2018 and 2020 the singer also released his debut album, “These Two Windows” (2020), as well as his second mixtape, “Narrated for You” (2018). During that time none of his singles blew up like “Let Me Down Slowly”. However, he did come out with a couple of other tracks in 2018, “If We Have Each Other” and “Water Fountain”, which have been certified gold in both the United States and Canada. And outside of focusing on his own career he has also written for other artists.
