“Anyone for You (Tiger Lily)” by George Ezra

This George Ezra song centers on the his romantic relationship with a lady by the name of “Tiger Lily”.  At first, after randomly meeting her one day after she just “moved to the city”, everything was all good between the two of them. But somewhere along the line, Tiger Lily decided to cut him off, on top of apparently leaving town. 

So the thesis sentiment revolves around George’s willingness to be “anyone” in the name of pleasing her. At first, such a statement served as a confirmation of Ezra being at her beck and call. But now that she has dumped him, it’s like George is more forthrightly saying that he is prepared to modify his personality into whatever she deems most suitable for a lover. But regardless of the intricacies of the titular assertion, what it ultimately boils down to is his love for the addressee being just as strong now as it was when they were together.

George Ezra, a singer from England, scored a number of major commercial hits (most notably “Budapest“) during the 2010s.  “Anyone for You” is the first song he released during 2022, as backed by Columbia Records and Sony. And more specifically, this track was released on 28 January of said year.

This track was written by George Ezra and its producer, Joel Pott. The working composition of this piece reportedly dates back to at least 2016. Joel Pott (who first came into prominence with his band Athlete) has worked extensively with Ezra over the years. Ezra and Pott have composed several songs together, including:

• “Hold My Girl”
• “Budapest”
• “Did You Hear the Rain”

“Anyone for You (Tiger Lily)” did alright for itself, such as scoring a top 20 hit in the UK.

This track is from a 2022 studio album called “Gold Rush Kid”. This is actually the third studio album of Ezra’s career.

Is this song autobiographical? Is Tiger Lily real?

It is not precisely clear if Tiger Lily is a real person who once had a romantic relationship with Ezra. According to an interview Ezra had with Apple Music, the inspiration for this song came from some old journals he found at his home during the 2020 coronavirus lockdown. It was in one of these old journals that he came across the phrase talking about Tiger Lily moving to the city. As soon as he stumbled upon this, he instantly knew he had found what he needed to create new music.
