Avril Lavigne

Avril Lavigne is a Canadian artist who has exhibited exceptional-vocal talent since her early youth. By the age of 16, she was worth a couple of million dollars, having already been signed by Arista Records. And a year prior to that she performed onstage with an already-established Canadian superstar, Shania Twain, who rightfully predicted that one day Avril would become “a famous singer”.

Indeed Lavigne’s first album, “Let Go” (2002), came out shortly thereafter, when she was 17. It has exceeded 16,000,000 copies sold globally. Her next album, 2004’s “Under My Skin”, boasts of over 8,000,000 sales. And her third album, “The Best Damn Thing” (2007), sold over 6,000,000 copies. Thus the first decade of the 21st century proved to be what will likely remain as the pinnacle of her career.

Her genre of specialty is a category known as pop punk. Indeed Lavigne has a very-distinct style which some would define as tomboyish, especially earlier in her career. But this was not just a gimmick, as it has been noted that in her youth she was better than her male peers in hockey. And in terms of her unique first name, it actually translates to the word April in French.
