“Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus” by The Strokes

The Strokes’ “Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus” is a heavily-metaphorical song in which the singer, Julian Casablancas, is apparently reminiscing on the past. Indeed the title of the track itself appears points to his origins. That is to say that The Strokes are from New York City, the same locale in which the “Brooklyn Bridge” is situate.

And as alluded to earlier, there is a lot going on in the lyrics. For instance, in the pre-chorus Julian seems to allude to another man being romantically attracted to him. In the chorus itself he states that he is finding it challenging to make “new friends”. Moreover in the bridge he gives a shoutout to his ex-wife, Juliet Joslin.

But all things considered, what seems to be going on here is that he is engaged in the act of reminiscing. In other words, he is analyzing the progress of his life, particularly from a social perspective. And at the end of the day, what he seems to be saying in that regard is that he is caught up in some type of ungratifying cycle.
