Troye Sivan’s “Could Cry Just Thinkin About You” is about a homosexual love, which is made evident via the pronoun usage in the chorus. But outside of that it reads like your standard breakup song, one in which the vocalist is lamenting over the featured relationship falling apart.
And basically, how his sentiments read are as if he thoroughly enjoyed the union when he and the addressee were together. But now in the aftermath of it falling apart, the vocalist is so heartbroken that he feels as if he would have been better off if they never went there in the first place. And such is the reason why he is in the titular state, i.e. being able to “cry just thinking about” this person.
To make matters worse, at the moment it does not appear that Troye will be getting over the addressee soon. And the reason we know this is because, as also revealed in the chorus, he is in that state whereas just about everything he sees, including other potential romantic interests, remind him of his ex.
Verily at the moment, the vocalist is more or less lost in life without his love. And whereas the prospect of facing the future without his ex may be presently confusing, he knows that given the circumstances he must venture to do so nonetheless.

This song originally appeared, on 21 August 2020, as an interlude on Troye Sivan’s EP “In a Dream”.
Then on the date of 9 July 2021, Capitol Records, Universal Music Australia and EMI released the tune in full, at nearly 2:40 in length, as a standalone single. Relatedly, the full version was actually issued after Troye Sivan had officially broken up with a model named Jacob Bixenman, whom he had been dating for four years prior.
Moreover, the vocalist/songwriter went on to imply that he began writing this song as said relationship initially started falling apart.
The aforementioned interlude managed to chart in New Zealand.

As of the release of this song, Troye Sivan is a 26 year old singer/actor, though at this point primarily a musician, who has been professionally active for about 15 years. Throughout his career he has taken home a bunch of awards via organizations such as MTV, Nickelodeon, YouTube, Fox (i.e. the Teen Choice Awards) and of course those associated with his homeland of Australia, i.e. ARIA and APRA.
He also has a couple of GLAAD Awards under his belt and has appeared on the RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise. But interesting to note is that he also has a non-music related filmography. For instance, he was featured on 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine when he was in his early teens. And he also led the South African Spud film series, which had three entries during the early 2010s.
