The lyrics of Charli XCX’s “Detonate” can come off as being a bit topsy-turvy at points. But what it basically boils down to is the singer not having faith that the romantic relationship she is in will actually last. And her pessimism doesn’t have anything to do with her partner. Rather, as stated in the post-chorus, she doesn’t trust her own self in this regard. So basically, the title of this song alludes to the idea that she personally does not anticipate being in this relationship for long.
