“Fireman” by Chief Keef (Ft. YoungBoy NBA)

Although the term “fireman” is never clearly defined as used in this track, it is a title that the artists (specifically YoungBoy NBA) give to themselves. Within the context of the refrain, it most likely alludes to them staying cool under fire, as in when the beef starts brewing (i.e. a gun battle), they “never ran”.  The chorus is also handled by NBA, where he makes references to wealth, gun violence and most-dominantly possessing illicit drugs as in being a distributor.

He also begins his verse by mentioning “dope”. However, the first segment of it really has YoungBoy highlighting the talent and work ethic which he applies to his musical career. Later he does bring up his own drug use and the fact that he is “never sober”. And he concludes the section by threatening those who “play (him) wrong”.

Meanwhile Chief Keef’s verse jumps through a number of topics. However, what seems to dominate is sadly the subject of gun violence. Other matters discussed are his own work ethic, wealth and interactions with women. And he brings the verse to a close with a philosophical question of how others are “going to catch up” with him when they are “running slow”. To us, this sounds like he may be throwing shade at haters and/or competitors.

Ultimately what “Fireman” boils down to is that the homeys are flexing hard and acknowledge that other “ni**as” cannot match their output.
