The way Russ’ “Give Up” reads is as if the singer and his lady, i.e. the addressee of the song, reached a rough patch in their relationship. He kept the option open for the two of them getting back together. But in the relationship’s hiatus, she went and got physical with someone else. And as a result, he has now totally thrown the idea of making up with her out the window.
