“Never Again” by Russ

This song (“Never Again”) is simple enough in its approach, as it details the musings of a vocalist who has definitively decided to break up with the addressee, the woman he apparently loves but has proven intolerable. There’s a lot of relaying going on in the process. But what it all boils down to is homegirl wearing Russ’s patience thin, to the point that he can no longer deal with her in a romantic capacity.

For instance, in the chorus, the addressee is depicted as someone who stresses the vocalist out and lacks respect for her partner. Moreover, it is implied that she regularly does things to intentionally piss Russ off. And basically what we’re dealing with here, on top of the vocalist’s stated desire to “be out”, as in bounce on this relationship, is Russ delineating various characteristics his sweetheart possesses which he has grown to dislike.

Indeed by the time all is said and done, we find the vocalist kicking himself for not being able to perceive that this was a doomed romance from the get-go.

So the overall implication is that despite being tested over and over again, up until now Russ refused to give up on this relationship. But now he is saying “never again”, as in this time when he leaves, he isn’t coming back.
