“Hesitate” demonstrates the brothers’ maturity in terms of relationships in contrast to their past songs such as “S.O.S“, which were mostly themed on frustration and breakup. The song is basically targeted at the narrator’s partner as he conveys his willingness to be constantly available and dependable to her.
The song is filled with promises that he will always be there for her, to comfort her and possibly take away her pain, share in her burdens, and be a shoulder for her to lean on. He entreats her to trust him with her problems and to draw closer because he will not hesitate to do anything that makes her happier.
A love letter to Sophie Turner
In an interview with Billboard, Nick Jonas revealed that the song was actually Joe’s love letter to his wife Sophie Turner. At that time Sophie was Joe’s fiancée.
